Path of Exile faces an epic Betrayal expansion

Path of Exile is a free-to-play action game which draws inspiration from classics like Diablo. Set in the gothic world of "Wraeclast," players have access to hundreds of combinations of spells and abilities, granting unprecedented gameplay style tweaking.

On December 7, Path of Exile‘s dedicated fans will be treated to something that’s completely game-changing. Betrayal, or the 3.5.0 update to the game, is partly an expansion and partly a massive rework of several key features.

Just like the other updates, Betrayal adds in new areas, loot, and monsters to battle--all of which will be accessible on the mid-point and into the end-game. However in a bit of a departure from the previous expansion, Betrayal focuses a little more on storytelling and choices. While the focus is still primarily on hack-and-slash gameplay with ample amounts of loot to collect, the added narrative is all in service to the minute-to-minute gameplay--giving it extra impact. In the various dealings with the organization, your decisions on which characters live or die will greatly influence the power structure of the Syndicate and its different branches. In similar vein to Shadow of War, you can view these changes within the game's connected web of characters, allowing you to chart out your path to eliminating the group's influence. Come to now, you can buy POE Currency Trading with fast delivery and 100% safety.

Betrayal centers on your investigation of the Immortal Syndicate, a mysterious group. You’re working with Jun Ortoi, who’s a member of the Order of the Djinn. They’re concerned that the Immortal Syndicate has figured out a way to bring back the dead … without them being undead. As you investigate their 18 members, you assemble a police-like board of suspects (you may even interrogate them if you capture them). It brings a new element to Path of Exile that goes beyond killing foes, finding loot, and modding your equipment.

The big difference between this and past leagues is that Jun isn’t leaving after three months. She’ll be joining the other past three league NPCs to fully replace the Forsaken Masters. Instead of annoying little side-quests, they’ll offer meaty optional adventures. Niko takes you to delve into an infinite shadow-dungeon, Alva sends you back in time to beat up the Aztec-like Vaal, and Einhar takes you on Pokemon-ish hunts to capture special monsters used in grisly ‘beastcrafting’ rituals. The Atlas Of Worlds endgame has been bulked up a bit, including challenges set by these NPCs.

You can convince them to betray their fellow criminals (hence the expansion name), and you'll end up raiding safehouses full of loot to take out high-ranking members. Eventually, you'll face the mastermind behind the whole thing. As Steven pointed out, it's not unlike Shadow of Mordor/War's Nemesis system.
